Generation of Thermal Energy from Renewable Sources

According to operational information of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and 22* oblast state administrations in 2013 the total volume of thermal energy generated by renewable energy facilities made up 1144,9 thousand Gcal that enabled to replace usage of traditional energy resources in amount exceeding 200,4 thousand tons of fuel equivalent, in particular, thermal energy generated by:

  • Bio energy facilities – 1140,2 thousand Gcal;
  • Thermal pumps – 3,2 thousand Gcal;
  • Solar energy facilities – 0,25 thousand Gcal;
  • Geothermal energy - 1,2 thousand Gcal.

The total volume of generated thermal energy in 2013 is 1144,9 thousand Gcal, it exceeds in 1,5 times or by 382,9 thousand Gcal the level of 2012.

According to operational information of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and 22* oblast state administrations as of 1 January 2014 the installed capacity of thermal energy facilities generating energy from RES is 726,2 MW, in particular:

  • Solar energy – 0,33 MW;
  • Geo thermal energy – 0,86 MW;
  • Thermal pumps – 2,99 MW;
  • Bio energy, including thermal energy from bio gas – 722,02 MW.

As of 1 January 2014 Ukraine has 389 facilities, which generate thermal energy from renewable sources.

As of 1 January 2014 in Ukraine the installed capacity of renewable energy sources operating at “green” tariff is 1181,553 MW, of those in the current year 535,550 MW was commissioned (it exceeds in 2,3 times the capacities installed in 2012), of those:

  • Wind energy sources – 139,873 MW (exceeding in 3,1 times compared to 2012);
  • Solar energy sources – 376,857 MW (exceeding in 2 times);
  • Small hydro energy sources – 1,282 MW (less by 36,6 %);
  • Bio energy sources generating electricity from biomass – 11,0 MW (exceeding in 5,5 times);
  • Bio energy sources generating electricity from biogas – 6,5 MW.

The abovementioned sources in 2013 generated 1,52 bln. kW*h of electricity; it doubles the level compared to 2012 and exceeds by 6,8 % compared to 4 previous years. It enabled to replace energy resources in amount of 374,5 thousand tons of fuel equivalent.
