From 7 to 9 December 2015 the Head of the Department for Traditional Fuels Substitution of the SAEE Yuriy Shafarenko visited the Federal Republic of Germany. During the working trip the main discussion issues were biogas generation in Germany and prospects for biogas plants construction in Ukraine.

Yuriy Shafarenko presented a status and opportunities for renewable energy development in Ukraine.

The Board Member of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine Yuriy Matveiev told about the biogas projects in Ukraine and prospects for their development.

The Bio-PROM Project Manager Lesia Matiyuk described the experience of biogas and biomethane production in Germany.

The representative of the BIOSURF Project Kristin Sternberg presented the European experience of international biomethane trade.

During the visit, the delegation visited the factory NAWARO BioEnergie AG that produces industrial biogas – biomethane. There Felix Hess, the Board Member and the founder of NAWARO BioEnergie AG, told about the whole cycle, from harvesting the resource base to power generation from biogas and injection of biomethane into the gas transport system of Germany.

At the end of the visit the participants reached an agreement on the need to establish a working group to improve the regulatory framework for biogas generation and use in Ukraine. This will attract domestic and foreign investment to this sector.
