Young people campaign for energy saving!Created date
21 05 2014On May 20, 2014 the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine rewarded winners of the students' poster contest "With posters against expenditures" and the Pan-Ukrainian children's art competition "Children for Clean Energy" in Kyiv. This year 16 pupils and 6 students have won among more than 1.5 thousand participants. Their works will form a basis of social advertising campaign aimed at changing the behavior of society regarding energy consumption. Besides they will become a highlight of Water Museum in Kyiv.
Drawings, posters and handicrafts from plastic and glass agitate for energy saving and urge to change people's attitude towards non-renewable natural resources. "Works impress with a deep understanding of the topic, they show that most participants know about problems of energy saving at first hand", said the Agency's Chairman Oleksandr Taran at the award ceremony. He said that with such potential it would be much easier to build a strong, energy independent Ukraine with high culture of energy consumption.
At the award ceremony the British Ambassador to Ukraine Mr. Simon Smith said: "It is good that the Government of Ukraine deals with such issue as energy saving and the Agency attracts children and students to this. It is very important for development of the country".
Ms. Jurate Juodsnukyte, the Sector Manager for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, was also deeply impressed by a variety of works and a talent of participants. She said that energy efficiency is formed not only at the state level, it is a responsibility of everybody. "It depends on us how efficient non-renewable energy resources will be used, how warm our homes will be and how rationally we will spend our savings", she said. Solutions to these issues are reflected in works of participants.
Mr. Bil Tucker, the Chief of Party of the Municipal Energy Reform Project in Ukraine, also pointed out a high quality of contest works and the fact that the participants were inspired with importance of such themes as energy efficiency and energy saving.
According to the Managing Director of "iC consulenten Ukraine" Olena Rybak, it is pleasant to notice that such activities are carried out for the younger generation because each of them will form the future of Ukraine.
The winners received not only prizes but had an opportunity to see a cogeneration plant while visiting "Coca-Cola Beverages Ukraine" and to go on an exclusive tour to the Water Museum.
