It was reported by the Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Serhiy Savchuk at the European Energy Security Forum on September 26 in Brussels.

"Today, the Agency actively works to create conditions for gas replacement. This issue is of high priority and should be solved urgently", said S. Savchuk, presenting the recent government's initiatives inthe sphere of energy efficiency at the discussion panel "Solving the Ukrainian Energy Dependence Puzzle".

However, the Head underlined a strategic importance of renewable energy development both in the context of enhancing energy security and in view of the global trends of economic growth.

"Our goal is to achieve 11% renewable energy in the final energy consumption by 2020. On the one hand it's quite an ambitious desire, on the other it is a vital necessity for the future sustainable development of our country", said the Chairman of the Agency.

According to S. Savchuk, the key to the dynamic development of renewable energy and usage of alternative fuels in Ukraine will be legislative initiatives and financing mechanisms that the Agency has developed to attract investments to these sectors.

"We are open to cooperation, ready for a constructive dialogue and implementation of specific initiatives. Both Ukrainian and foreign investors can always rely on our Agency as a reliable partner", said the Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine at the end of the event.
