13 02 2015

This issue was discussed at the meeting of the Agency's Head Sergiy Savchuk with representatives of the Regional Environmental Centre (REC), particularly with the Executive Director Marta Szigeti Bonifert.

Taking into account a positive experience of the "REC Central and Eastern Europe", "REC Caucasus", "REC Central Asia", "REC Moldova" and others, the idea to create "REC Ukraine" appeared today.

The Regional Environmental Centre in Ukraine will be established on the basis of the representation of the current "REC Central and Eastern Europe". In addition, it is planned that this centre will become an independent, non-profit and non-political organization aimed at addressing not only environmental issues, but also those in the sphere of energy efficiency and energy saving. The main activities of the centre will meet the following criteria: climate change prevention, sustainable energy development, efficient use of resources, training and education of specialists.

In general the parties agreed to cooperate attracting the Regional Environmental Centre to the implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in Ukraine.

Note: The Regional Environmental Centre is actively involved in key global, regional and local processes and plays a key role in addressing issues in the spheres of environmental protection and sustainable development, transferring knowledge and experience to other countries and regions.
