It was reported by the Head of the Agency Sergiy Savchuk after a boiler plant opening ceremony that took place on February 27 in the Khmelnytskyi region. According to his words the new boilers will run on biofuels and ensure complete independence of consumers from expensive imported gas supply. Considering that two months ago two boilers with capacity of 3.4 MW were opened the total capacity of boilers running on alternative fuels will make up 7.6 MW.

"What the city does today is another important step that brings our country to energy independence, - said Sergiy Savchuk. - Today bioenergy actually replaces 3 billion cubic meters of gas per year. More than 3650 MW thermal power capacity on biomass is operating. According to the National Renewable Energy Action Plan by 2020 it is planned to replace up to 7.2 billion cubic meters of gas per year realizing the potential of bioenergy only".

The total investment required to implement the plan is about 17 billion euros. The planned priorities include building plants for pellets and biofuel boilers production, cooperation on production of the second generation bioethanol, energy crops cultivation.

Also the Agency's Head informed that the launch of boiler plants is a result of joint work of the Agency, the executive committee of Kamianets-Podilsk City Council, the municipal enterprise "Miskteplovodoenerhiya" and the company "Universal Development Group" within the signed Memorandum of Cooperation on January 23. Its purpose is to do joint activities aimed at implementing a pilot investment program of substituting natural gas with biological fuels for heat production. The goal is to switch all heat supply facilities to solid fuel boilers in Kamianets-Podilsk till 2017.
