The Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Valerii Bezus signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, aiming to increase the level of energy efficiency of educational institutions.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet and the Deputy Minister of Energy Yulia Pidkomorna.

"In Ukraine, more than 100,000 buildings of public institutions, built in the last century, need urgent thermal modernization. Among them there are hundreds of buildings in education sphere: universities, institutes, centers of vocational education and more. Due to implementation of energy efficiency projects we can achieve significant savings on energy bills and create comfortable conditions for studying and working in educational institutions", said Valerii Bezus, Head of the the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine.

“With the assistance of the President of Ukraine and the Government, the Ministry of Education and Science is actively implementing reforms in the field of education and science in the country. The important component of the transformation is to increase usage efficiency of state property under the Ministry of Education and Science. Today's meeting is another important step towards the renewal of institutions, including vocational (technical) and higher education", said Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet.

"It is important that the Ministry of Education and Science has already established cooperation with various international partners who are ready to support Ukraine in this area. The State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, in turn, will provide advisory assistance to the Ministry of Education and Science during the preparation of applications for energy efficiency projects, their justification and support: from technical solutions to staff training", added Valerii Bezus.

In general, the parties will cooperate in the implementation of energy efficiency projects and renovation of institutions, in particular, of higher and vocational (vocational) education.

The partnership is expected to achieve:

• saving money energy and utilities bills;
• improving the investment attractiveness of energy efficiency measures and projects;
• increasing the number of energy efficient buildings in education sphere.
