The State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE) congratulates the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Arab Emirates Dmytro Senik on his appointment as the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The relevant decree No.644/2022 was issued by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

As a full member of IRENA, which unites more than 160 countries, Ukraine will continue to work on the energy transition and overcoming dependence on imported fossil fuels.

The issue of energy transformation has gained critical importance today, in times of challenges caused by russia's war against Ukraine and russia's energy blackmail of the civilized part of the world.

Switching to energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy sources means not only taking care of the environment and saving energy.

The development of the mentioned spheres has become strategically necessary, first of all, for the sake of the security and independence of states.

It is worth noting that despite the war, Ukraine courageously holds the energy front. The national energy system has joined ENTSO-E and today Ukraine exports electricity, providing support to EU countries.

Our state has significant resource potential for renewable energy. For example, according to the rate of development of "green" energy, in 2019, Ukraine entered the top ten countries in the world.

The draft National Renewable Energy Action Plan for the period until 2030, developed before the war, envisages an ambitious goal of 27% of energy from renewable sources in final energy consumption in 2030. Obviously, after the victory, the plan will be reassessed, but the vector of movement is unchanged.

In addition, at the state level, active work is being carried out to determine ways to develop the hydrogen economy in Ukraine.

All the above and other directions are a contribution to energy independence, as well as carbon-neutral development. Accelerated work in these areas after the victory will contribute to faster and better recovery of Ukraine.

Note:

• IRENA unites more than 160 countries of the world to stimulate their transition to a sustainable energy future, using innovative technologies in the field of energy efficiency, decarbonization, "green" energy, as well as financial instruments.

• Ukraine acquired the status of a full member of IRENA on February 24, 2018.
