Ukraine introduces a European approach to defining the functions of the State in the spheres of energy efficiency and renewable energy

Today, on November 26, a new edition of the Statute of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine was approved at the government meeting.

The key idea of the adopted document is revision and expansion of the Agency's functions in accordance with the commitments of Ukraine to the EU. According to the European legislation, the Statute provides for introduction of effective mechanisms to encourage energy efficiency increase and renewable energy development. In particular, it includes: establishment of funds of state support (Article 11 of Directive 2006/32/EC), development of public-private partnership (Part 18 of Directive 2010/31/EC), promotion and information campaigns (Article 7 of Directive 2006/32/EC).

Commenting on the content of the document, the Head of the SAEE Sergiy Savchuk said: "The Statute includes a list of new functions that reflect the existing and future obligations of Ukraine to the European Union in the spheres of energy efficiency and renewable energy. Also, these functions take into account problems that exist in these sectors and provide tools to address them. The approved Statute is a stable foundation for implementation of effective measures that will bring indices of energy efficiency and renewable energy development of Ukraine to the European level".
