Anna Zamazeeva discussed support for Ukraine and its sustainable development with American partners - representatives of the state of TexasCreated date
24 04 2023At the conference-exhibition “Earthx2023”, the Head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency of Ukraine Anna Zamazeeva had a unique opportunity to hold talks with Wayne Christian, the commissioner of the Texas Railway Commission, which regulates the fuel and energy complex in the energy giant, the state of Texas.
Texas is considered a leader in energy: more than 40% of all oil and 25% of gas in the United States are produced in this state. In 2020, during the pandemic and the drop in world oil prices, this Texas regulator, as Wayne Christian said, made a number of difficult decisions, which helped to stabilize the industry and its development. Later, it helped to support the European markets in the light of russia's aggression against Ukraine.
But despite such capacities in oil and gas production, today Texas is betting on renewable energy sources and alternative fuels:
⮚ Texas has already become a leader in wind energy, producing about 26% of the US's wind power.
⮚ Texas has embraced the development of wind and solar power to become one of the nation's leading producers of renewable energy, and has filled its universities with researchers working on cutting-edge strategies for sustainable energy development.
⮚ Many Texas companies are working on projects in hydrogen energy, as well as carbon capture and geothermal energy production.
"It is important that American institutions and investors are showing interest in the possibilities and prospects of cooperation with Ukraine specifically in matters of energy efficiency and low-carbon energy", said Anna Zamazeeva.
During the negotiations, the parties came to a common point of view: the dependence of any country on the import of "bloody" russian gas and oil must be eradicated!
Ukraine defends the values of the civilized world: freedom, democracy, sustainable development. Despite any challenges, we continue to pave the way to energy independence and strive to unite the world's leading countries in this struggle.
Therefore, Anna Zamazeeva presented to the American side the huge, untapped potential of Ukraine in energy efficiency, renewable energy and decarbonization.
Anna Zamazeeva spoke about the importance of recovery and development of Ukraine based on energy efficiency, low-carbon energy and decarbonization of the economy. Oleksandr Kubrakov, the profile Vice Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine - Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, insists on such an approach and such principles.
The head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency also invited American colleagues to partnership with Ukraine in various directions and outlined to them the already steps of the State Energy Efficiency Agency planned together with the Ministry for Reconstruction team:
- launch of the State Fund for Energy-Efficient Transformation and Decarbonization, which will be filled with revenues from the tax on CO2 emissions, as well as international grants;
- creation of a leasing platform for innovative technologies and equipment;
- development of the green bond market, the potential of which reaches 36 billion US dollars;
- the development of the ESCO market (with a potential of 2.5 billion dollars per year) for the wide implementation of energy-efficient projects in schools, hospitals and other public buildings;
- creation of new programs etc.
"We have positive assessments of our initiatives from American colleagues, as well as specific proposals from their side for cooperation in the direction of low-carbon energy and decarbonization. Ahead there is a review of all proposals", Anna Zamazeeva concluded.
