The State Energy Efficiency Agency of Ukraine is strengthening cooperation with the UN Development Program in UkraineCreated date
04 04 2023The Head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency of Ukraine (SAEE) Anna Zamazeeva held a meeting with the resident representative of the UNDP in Ukraine Jaco Cilliers with whom she discussed the priority areas of partnership in energy efficiency and decarbonization.
"UNDP is one of the reliable and important partners of Ukraine in energy efficiency, green transformation and decarbonization. I hope for deepening cooperation, because all these joint directions are important during the recovery of communities and the regional economy", - noted the Head of the SAEE Anna Zamazeeva.
Currently, the Agency actively cooperates with UNDP on the energy efficiency of public buildings. The parties are working together on the implementation of energy management systems, the development of energy performance contracting (ESCO), the preparation of the legal basis for the implementation of the Law of Ukraine "On Energy Efficiency" etc.
At the same time, the SAEE is open to new initiatives and is working out ways to increase energy efficiency in all sectors of the economy: the housing sector, heat supply systems, water supply, industry and transport.
"We are sure that only a comprehensive approach is the basis for solving the task - restoration with the use of energy-efficient approaches, solutions and technologies," explained Anna Zamazeeva.
Talking about the work and participation in the reconstruction projects, Jaco Cilliers confirmed: "Energy efficiency should be a key component of the restoration according to the principle of "Build Back Better". Such projects need to be scaled up. It is also important to stimulate the attraction of ESCO investments, which we are working on together".
The parties also focused on plans to strengthen cooperation with local authorities to support them in implementing both energy management systems and energy-saving projects.
The bioenergy development is also relevant for communities, which will contribute to the decentralization of energy supply sources.
"We are ready to make efforts to launch new projects. There are many tasks and challenges ahead of us, and I hope that in cooperation with UNDP we will be able to achieve the expected results", concluded the Head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency and expressed her gratitude to UNDP for technical assistance to increase the institutional capacity of the Agency, which will help to effectively and promptly perform complex tasks that require application of modern technologies.
At the end of the meeting, Jaco Cilliers confirmed the readiness of UNDP to provide support to the SAEE in the development of energy efficiency, including as part of an upcoming regional project related to increasing the energy efficiency of the global supply chain of the construction industry.
