Energy efficiency, biomethane and carbon-free economy are spheres where the EU sees Ukraine as an important partnerCreated date
26 07 2023This was emphasized during the meeting of the Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE) Anna Zamazeeva with the advisor of the EU Delegation to Ukraine on energy issues Torsten Wöllert and trade consul Anne Berzio.
As reported by the European partners who initiated the meeting, after the powerful Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine held in London, it is important to clearly structure the ways of cooperation.
Energy efficiency, biomethane industry development and carbon-free economy are main directions where the EU sees Ukraine as its key partner, according to European colleagues.
The specific steps of the EU-Ukraine partnership in these directions were discussed in detail.
They focused on areas that are relevant for both the EU and Ukraine, on which energy stability and sustainable development depend - energy efficiency, renewable gases usage and decarbonization.
Separately, the team of the State Energy Efficiency Agency presented the steps and efforts to introduce a full-fledged biomethane market that we currently have.
In particular, the Head emphasized the attention of the partners to the fact that according to Law No. 3220-IX dated 30.06.23, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the State Energy Efficiency Agency is responsible for maintaining the biomethane register and issuing guarantees of origin of biomethane (including compressed and liquefied).
"Therefore, now we are, even more actively, together with DENA, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the GTS Operator, working on the implementation of a full-fledged biomethane register based on the software of German partners. It was emphasized that Ukraine aspires to become a full-fledged player on the biomethane market in the EU, and to confirm this, draft law No.9456 aimed at amending the Customs Code of Ukraine regarding customs clearance of biomethane has already been registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine”, said Anna Zamazeeva.
The Head of the Agency agreed to work closely with European colleagues to address the issue of recognition of Ukrainian biomethane guarantees of origin in the EU and promotion of its export.
In addition to biomethane, the parties discussed the EU's integrated policy on energy efficiency and decarbonization, as well as plans for the CBAM introduction.
"We are following the course of the European Union, adapting national legislation and implementing a number of tools that will allow us to achieve energy efficiency and decarbonization goals in the long term," Anna Zamazeeva emphasized.
Interested in such a strategy of action, Torsten Vollert assured that he is ready to support all initiatives aimed both at meeting Ukraine's urgent needs and rebuilding the country based on the global principle of sustainable development and energy efficiency standards.
