SAEE and USAID discussed Ukraine's priorities in energy efficiencyCreated date
09 08 2023The Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE) Anna Zamazeeva held a productive meeting with USAID's American partners - the Head of the USAID Energy Security Project Michael Trainor and the Energy Officer of the USAID Ukraine Kathleen Kirsch.
It is important that SAEE and USAID are united by a common mission - the energy independence of Ukrainian communities and the entire country. Therefore, the participants discussed a wide range of issues in various areas of possible cooperation.
Together with her team Anna Zamazeeva presented to American colleagues all initiatives aimed at supporting communities and the economy on the way towards energy efficiency.
Special attention has been paid to the following directions:
- creation of the National Decarbonization Platform;
- launch of educational programs within the framework of the platform;
- the development of high efficiency cogeneration in Ukraine: the Parliament has adopted the relevant law, drafted with the participation of the SAEE, and now the SAEE team is working on the bylaw development. The SAEE is also establishing a dialogue with communities that are looking for cogeneration plants for reliable power and heat supply during the heating season.
- implementation of the register of guarantees of origin of electricity produced by cogeneration plants;
- introduction of a full-fledged biomethane register in cooperation with German partners and ensuring recognition of Ukrainian biomethane guarantees of origin in the EU;
- introduction of the Ukrainian national biofuel sustainability certification scheme in accordance with European standards with its subsequent recognition in the EU and other issues.
Anna Zamazeeva also expressed gratitude to USAID for supporting Ukraine not only in the reconstruction of the energy system, but also in issues of future hydrogen energy, namely, for the thorough research conducted to draft Hydrogen Strategy of Ukraine.
American colleagues, in turn, shared the results of their work and further plans. They see many joint points in the work with the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine.
Therefore, the parties agreed to continue the dialogue and further cooperation in various directions. The partners are particularly interested in the issues of high efficiency cogeneration, in the work of the future National Decarbonization Platform and other initiatives relevant to communities.
“We continue our dialogue! Energy sustainability of communities and the country based on modern principles of energy efficiency and decarbonization is an unchanging joint priority”, - said Anna Zamazeeva.
