July 28 — Day of Remembrance for Those Tortured or Killed in Captivity

Today is a day of remembrance, sorrow, and at the same time, unbreakable strength. For the first time at the national level, Ukrainians honor all Defenders of Ukraine — military personnel, members of volunteer formations, and civilians who were tortured, executed, or died while in captivity.
On this day, three years ago, Russia committed one of its most brutal and cynical war crimes — the mass killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Olenivka.
At least 53 Ukrainian defenders were murdered in Penal Colony No. 120 after laying down their arms in accordance with orders, trusting that international law would be upheld under the supervision of international organizations.
Today, we bow our heads in memory of all those who gave their lives for Ukraine. Of those who did not live to see Victory, but brought it closer every day with their courage and resilience.
This day is not only about pain, but also about strength — the strength of a nation’s spirit that refuses to break. Honoring the memory of our Heroes is our duty. It is a responsibility to those who are no longer with us, and to those who continue the fight.
Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Heroes!
