Who will take responsibility for implementing energy efficiency programs in Ukraine?

It was a theme of the round table at the IA Ukrinform press center within the socio-information project "From Energy Efficiency to Energy Independence".

"Energy cost is a key factor in encouraging the implementation of energy efficient technologies", - said Deputy Director of State Regulation Department - Head of Programs and Energy Efficiency Performance Monitoring Office of SAEE Maksym Kysymes. He said that to improve the situation in the sphere of energy efficient technologies attention should be paid to the Law of Ukraine "On Energy Saving" that is already obsolete. According to the updated law, business must make a commitment to achieve advanced energy efficiency indicators if they receive preferences from the state.

 In turn, Igor Novak, Head of Construction Industry Development and Regulatory Services Office of the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine, stressed upon that in order to increase energy efficiency in buildings ​​changes were made to the basic normative documents on energy efficiency, in particular, state building codes for building equipment, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning. According to him, the next stage of the regulatory framework development is harmonization of the national laws and regulations to the terms of EU directives and standards.

The participants of the roundtable concluded that it was necessary to create energy management institutions in every city and to approve a system of energy saving stimulation for businesses and consumers.
