Japan, one of the most energy-efficient countries in the world with ambitious goals for reducing CO2 emissions, is showing interest in cooperation with Ukraine in these areas. Partnership prospects were discussed by the Head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency of Ukraine (SAEE), Anna Zamazeeva, together with the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine representatives.

"Ukraine, despite everything, is on the path of progressive sustainable development," Anna Zamazeeva emphasized and outlined Ukraine's goals in the energy efficiency.

In addition, the Head of the SAEE drew the attention of partners to Ukraine's urgent need to restore communities and their economies based on the energy efficiency principles, renewable energy sources integration, and sustainable low-carbon economic development. In this direction, the SAEE has already had a number of ready-made solutions and planned initiatives.

Anna Zamazeeva presented to the Japanese side the key tools that should support communities and businesses in energy efficiency issues, namely:

  • State Fund for Decarbonization and Energy Efficient Transformation, which will become a permanent source of funds (from the tax on CO2 emissions) for energy-efficient projects;
  • The National Decarbonization Platform - the main platform where a number of financial instruments, services, as well as modern equipment and technologies from global manufacturers will be introduced for communities and businesses.

The Japanese partners expressed sincere admiration for the future national decarbonization platform possibilities, which will have a wide range of tools for attracting financial resources and leading technologies.

The parties reached preliminary agreements on the need to cooperate in attracting investors and leading Japanese energy-efficient equipment manufacturers to work on the Ukrainian National Decarbonization Platform.
