Hanna Zamazieieva: "How can we reduce the cost of the consumer basket for every Ukrainian? The answer is simple — invest in energy efficiency!"
In a short period, JSC "Decarbonization Fund of Ukraine" has become a powerful driver for implementing energy-efficient solutions in the country. Dozens of projects have already been financed and implemented, serving as examples of effective energy consumption reduction in the private sector, municipal enterprises, and local communities.
Among the implemented projects are the modernization of production processes, the installation of solar power plants, and the introduction of innovative technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency, including ESCO projects.
One of the largest cases was implemented at a food industry enterprise — one of the country’s biggest meat processing plants and a leader in the sector. The company received two concessional loans from the Decarbonization Fund of Ukraine:
The first loan — for the construction of a solar power plant;
The second — for the implementation of an energy-saving line for producing dry-cured sausages.
“The first loan, amounting to 25 million UAH for installing the solar power plant, covered everything — from design and equipment installation to connection and technical maintenance. The funds provided by the Fund covered 80% of the costs. The second loan of 32 million UAH covered 78% of the total expenses needed for the installation and commissioning of energy-saving equipment for product manufacturing,” commented Hanna Zamazieieva, Head of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency.
The installed solar station will generate 1,436 MWh of electricity annually, covering about 11.5% of the enterprise's total consumption. Over the 25-year project span, the plant is expected to save more than 488.5 million UAH on energy resources.
“This project will ensure stable energy supply for the plant even during blackouts, which is crucial for an enterprise supplying products to thousands of retail outlets across Ukraine. The cost reduction will allow the plant to optimize processes, increase capacity, and reduce product costs. It is forecasted that the price of the new product line will drop by 10%, positively impacting the consumer basket of Ukrainians,” added Hanna Zamazieieva.
The second project — the installation of energy-efficient equipment — will reduce annual electricity consumption by 1,212.2 MWh. The energy intensity per unit of production will decrease by 38.1%.
Each year, the implemented measures will reduce CO₂ emissions by 1,767.52 tonnes, equivalent to the emissions of 900 gasoline cars operating continuously for a year.
The plant employs about 1,000 people, and its products are sold at nearly 13,000 retail outlets across the country, including leading national chains. Stable power supply provided by the solar station is critical for uninterrupted operations, especially amid energy threats.
Each project like this is another step towards Ukraine's energy resilience. We are grateful to UNDP in Ukraine for their support and positive assessment of the Decarbonization Fund of Ukraine, and to all our partners for their joint efforts in shaping a sustainable and secure energy future for Ukraine.
