Solar Energy for Communities: A Solar Power Plant Project Implemented in the Kyiv Region with the Support of the Ukraine Decarbonization Fund JSC

Another important project has been successfully implemented in the Kyiv region with the support of the Ukraine Decarbonization Fund — the installation of two solar power stations (SPS) that ensure stable energy supply for critical infrastructure facilities in one of the region’s cities.

The total cost of the project is UAH 6.24 million, of which UAH 3.65 million was financed by the Fund as a concessional loan. The funding covered the entire implementation cycle — from the procurement and delivery of equipment to installation and commissioning.

As part of the initiative, two SPS with a total capacity of 160 kW were installed:

60 kW — at a pumping station that supplies water to the community;

100 kW — at wastewater treatment facilities that purify sewage before returning it to the environment.

Thanks to this project, annual electricity consumption from traditional sources is expected to decrease by more than 198.2 MWh, leading to a CO₂ emission reduction of 173.6 tonnes per year — a significant step toward sustainable regional development.

said Hanna Zamazieieva, Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine.

The installation of solar power systems allows the city to reduce dependence on centralized energy supply. This not only helps save budget funds, but also ensures uninterrupted water supply — especially vital under martial law conditions.

This project is a practical example of how renewable energy helps communities become energy independent, economically efficient, and environmentally responsible.

The Ukraine Decarbonization Fund consistently supports communities in implementing solutions in energy efficiency and renewable energy, promoting the transition to sustainable regional development.
